Sushi & Sake Tasting Dinner £55

A tutored sake tasting dinner which showcases some of the premium sake available at Matsuri St James’s.  This special menu has been carefully designed to complement the sake and finishes with a delicious fireball ice cream.  A full vegetarian menu is also available

Hakushika

Nama ginjo

Tako wasabi or Japanese salt pickled vegetables with kizami wasabi (v) A light, fresh sake with lemon on the nose.  The spiciness and saltiness calm the acidity and bring out a creaminess in this sake.

Dewazakura Tobiroku

Sparkling Nigori ginjo

Sashimi with wasabi-jōyu and ponzu mustard sauces or mozuku-su and seaweed salad (v) The acidity of the sauce acts as a wonderful counterpoint to the Tobiroku giving it an additional fresh, tangy dimension.

Dassai 50

Junmai daigingo

Tuna and otoro nigiri sushi or daikon, yamaimo and shiso maki-zushi with ume-su (v) An excellent sake to accompany sushi; its sweetness and creaminess intensifies the flavour of the otoro fatty tuna.

Suishin

Junmai ginjo

Ebi tempura maki-zushi or Helda bean tempura maki-zushi (v) This sake has a lovely, creamy rice nose with nuttiness and some acidity on the palate which contrasts the oiliness of the tempura.

Kamoizumi "Shusen"

Unagi eel nigiri or shiitake teriyaki gunkan (v) The lovely, earthy, mushroom notes of this sake enhance the depth of the umami flavour of both the unagi and the shiitake.

Matsuri fireball ice cream The sweet, rich, creaminess of this sake with a tinge of acidity mirrors the rich vanilla ice cream and tart pineapple.
